How to start your own Software Company.
Sunday, February 8th, 2004Hi,
I don’t think that I blogged about the ‘Business of Software’ column on MSDN by Eric. Eric is the guy behind SourceGear.
Eric is an entrepreneur and he is as good as Joel as far as writing {articles related to Software Development} goes. [Yep, you can make out that I am a big fan of Joel! :)]
In last week of Jan, Eric posted another article in Business of Software column, about Getting Started with your own Company. As usual, it’s a great article so go and read it! ![]()
One of the great points he mentions in his article is
‘Ideas are worthless, it’s execution which matters.’
I couldn’t agree more with him. I gained this insight because of what happens in company where I currently work. In my company, there are always different kinds of ‘initiatives’ flying on. Someone does ‘XYZ’ and gets lots of appreciation. Someone does ‘ABC’ and gets MVP (Most Valuable Player it seems) award. I look at the idea and then I think, what’s the BIG deal? Even I can do that and I can do it TEN times better. So I didn’t use to feel very high about those people. Then I realized that even I get some good ideas, but they remain, IDEAS. Nothing comes out of it. And then there is NO VALUE. Now I realize how important it is to have power to EXECUTE idea rather to generate the idea. These days, I rather don’t try to search for ideas, but try extremely hard to execute whatever ideas I already have. You see, executing is not easy!
