Book Tagging

Anil book-tagged me, this is the first time ever that someone passed a meme to me! Thanks, Anil!

Here’s my relationship details with books:

Total number of books I own: As of now, my bookshelf holds around 20 books. Lately I have stopped buying computer books because there is Safari. Also, I had around 20 or so books on my bookshelf when I was in India. So in total, I own around 40 books.

Last book I read: I think I read ‘Purple Cow’ by Seth Godin last, after seeing Ian recommending it so highly. I respect Seth and his writings but I found that the book ‘Purple Cow’ didn’t have lot of ideas. I found that Bootstrapper’s Bible by Seth Godin has lot more interesting stuff.

My unfinished Book: Rapid Development by Steve McConnell.

Books that mean a lot to me:

Getting Things Done by David Allen. He is the productivity guru. This bestseller has great material on how you can be more productive and achieve your goals. It’s a must for all professionals.

Peopleware by Tom Demarco and Timothy R. Lister. A great book about productive projects and teams. This book explains why everyone at Microsoft gets office with door that closes.

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini. This book would explain why you are not able say ‘No’ to salesman who employs tactics identified in this book.

Actually, I will save myself typing trouble and link you to Joel’s Book Reviews. I have read almost all the books on that list and I think you should too. [Madman recommends these books as well! :)]

I am passing book-tag to

Christopherer Baus [Chris, helping you to become number one 'baus'.]
UPDATE: Gautam Gaurav Bhatnagar
Ian
Kevin
Swaroop
Sonal

Btw, I think this meme is great compared to other pointless memes. I am already finding new interesting books and my wishlist is getting larger and larger. :)

I accept your tag and will respond shortly!

Interesting take as I found Purple Cow to be a revolution in my mind while bootstrapping to be a bunch of stuff I already know just thrown together. Funny how people can see the same content in such different ways.

  2. Kevin Dangoor Says:

I’m game for this meme as well. I’ll post something in the next couple of days.

I agree with Ian on Purple Cow/Free Prize Inside (I heard them together as an audiobook). I think it is all a question of where you’re coming from. There are good insights in all of these, but the insights that resonate will depend on the experience you bring with you and where you’re headed…

  3. Gaurav Says:

I have accepted you tag and blogged it already. BTW I am Gaurav, not Gautam :)

  4. Christopher Baus Says:

Oh man I’ve been so busy I haven’t read a good book in a long time. Stay tuned. But thanks for helping my page rank. I’m number 3!

  5. Kevin Dangoor Says:

You’re up against the British Urological Surgeons and the US Buddhists! You’ve got some real competition.

I’m down to the #3 “dangoor”, probably due to the domain name…

I am writing to you from Simon & Schuster, to offer you review copies of two wonderful works on Indian Literature that we will be publishing this Fall.

Q&A by Vikas Swarup is the story of how an illiterate waiter from Mumbai wins the one billion rupee jackpot in the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and is promptly arrested for cheating. The novel unfolds as he reviews the videotapes with his lawyer, telling her how, growing up an orphan boy, he came by the crucial wisdom and trivia that enabled him to sail through the quiz show without a single pass. It reads a little like a fable, is rigourously logical, and gives us a dark and witty picture of humanity in all its guises

A bestseller in India, Untouchables is Narendra Jadhav’s memoir which tells the deeply moving story of his father, who was born an untouchable, and his incredible journey to freedom. This is not only a personal memoir but an important social chronicle of the revolution of India’s Dalit class, “the untouchables.”

Please contact me and I would be happy to send you a copy of each book for your review.
