Ever wanted to hear Swami Vivekananda?

If you are Indian, then Lt. Swami Vivekananda needs no introduction. You would have also heard about his famous speech in Chicago in 1893, where he addressed the attendees as ‘Sisters and Brothers’. Did you ever wanted to listen to the actual speech? Find it right here.
Swami Vivekananda’s Speech - Part 1 Size - 7.16mb
Swami Vivekananda’s Speech - Part 2 Size - 4.78mb
There is bit of noise in starting of speech but overall the quality is good.

This is from wikipedia, where somebody had put the voice of Swami Vivekananda
————
It is good that you removed the link! I recount one funny experience of a monk of the Ramakrishna Order regarding the ‘Voice of Vivekananda’. He was presented with a CD supposed to contain the ‘original’ voice. The moment he heard it attentively he remembered that he had heard it before. It struck him that there was one cassette of N Vishwanathan who had read out some selected lectures of Swamiji. This was brought out during the Centenary commemoration of Chicago Parliament of Religions in 1993. He played the CD and the cassette simultaneously and lo! both had omission of one para from the lecture of 27th Sept, 1893. Not only that - in narrating the story of Frog in the well, Vishwanathan had expounded in a little dramatic way by modulating his voice, Swamiji’s lecture also had the same style! Wherever Vishwanathan had pronouced the word ‘often’ as ‘often, Swamiji in the CD also had the same pronounciation! More over before Swamiji’s lecture begins, there is an announcement in female voice. The written down records of Parliament of Religions show that there was no female announcer at that time! It appeared to our monk that the new CD has been produced by increasing the speed of the lecture and adding ‘noise’ level so as to appear as ancient one. Vishwanathan’s cassette is still available for sale from Udbodhan Office, Kolkata.Swami Vimokshananda 18:11, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi,
Bfore i begin .. I would like to remind u all of a gr8 quote by swami , it goes like this; Dont believe in a thing bcoz u have read abt it in a book, Dont believe in a thing bcoz another person has said it was true, Dont believe in words bcoz
they are hallowed by tradition. Find out the truth for urself… reason it out…that is realization..
So, If these are real audios of swami..IAM GRATEFUL TO YOU (THNX, THNX,THNXTHNX,THNX,THNX,THNX,
THNX,THNX,THNX,THNX,THNX,THNX,THNX,THNX,)

Among many thousand followers of Swamiji, I am one. I ‘ve read about Swamiji, i believe the voice quality could be improved more towards clarity. The content of Swamiji’s speech is understandable. New and improved softwares are in market to clear the unnecessary noise from the unforgettable speech.
Thanks for effort.

This is not Swamiji’s voice nor his speech. The speech Swamiji delivered on 11th sep 1893 was only 4.5 minuts long. I love Swami Vivekananda and I have no doubt every true Indian love him including the one who posted this speech here. But I expect some scrutiny to be done before mislieading everyone.
August 23rd, 2005 at 6:40 pm
I did some further research this morning, and it appears that the speech is not in Swami Vivekananda’s voice. For example, the following paragraph from the text of the “Paper on Hinduism” was missing from the spoken speech:
“I remember, as a boy, hearing a Christian missionary preach to
crowd in India. Among other sweet things he was telling them was,
that if he gave a blow to their idol with his stick. what could it
do? One of his hearers sharply answered, ‘If I abuse your God, what
can He do?’ ‘You would be punished,’ said the preacher, ‘when you
die.’ ‘So my idol will punish you when you die,’ retorted the
Hindu.”
So I did some further research about the history of sound recording at:
http://www.recording-history.org/HTML/musictech1.htm
Then I found a Wikipedia article that confirmed my suspicions. You can read it at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Ramashray
Nevertheless, the ideas conveyed in the text and in the speech (whoever the speaker really is) are worthy of respect and consideration.

My goodnes ….
I do not find words to express my gratitude. I was mad to listen to the
original voice of The Great Swami Vivekananda for years. I knew that the
only recording was available in the treasury to Khtadi’s Maharaja.
I feel very excited and blessed listening to this speeches in real voice.
Though, I want to know if this is the real voice. I have read somewhere
about someone called N Vishwanathan. Is this his voice ??
Anyway the great stuff !!!!!
August 29th, 2005 at 7:03 am
Need to investigate if this is the original voice.
August 30th, 2005 at 3:32 pm
Thank you very much for the link, i really enjoyed it.
August 31st, 2005 at 3:11 am
I have read somewhere that the original recording of Swami Vivekananda
was there in the treasury ot Khetadi’s Maharaja. Also, this recording is
not much clear. This recording took place before the event of the Parliament in Chicago; Swami Vivekananda was not famous that time.
I kindly urge, if someone can, to find this out. I herewith call for some
volunteers to come forward and take some initiative. I will be actively participating in this in all the possible ways. I am reachable at :
hitulparikh@yahoo.com
Looking forward some genuine response…….

It is possible that these are original audio recordings of Swami Vivekananda’s speeches. Why not? We should have a rationale view on the spread and adoption of a technology. Edison had patented the phonogram in England in 1878 soon followed by one in USA. There were two more persons who had been working on the technology simultaneous to him - one of them was a German emigre to USA; and the other person had patented phonogram around the same in Canada. These breakthroughs in sound technology were preceded by things like phonoautograph right since 1857. If one draws a parallel with today’s wide and wild spread of Personal computers (and other nascent variants of computer) within a couple of decades with the phonogram technology around the later part of 19th century, it was very much possible that it had become a familiar means for atleast for a section of the then western society - especially North America, Europe etc. Perhaps technology advances through gradual improvisations and comes to the public consciousness only after crossing a critical qualitative (and perhaps quantiative too) level. This subject should be studied by Historians of Science and Technology rather than passing off ignorance as authentic opinion.
September 6th, 2005 at 12:38 am
Afraid, I have to agree with both Hitul Parikh and Avinas on this. Even I was quite fooled by it when I received a CD from a friend who claimed it contained the original recording of Swamiji’s speech. Apparently it is N. Vishwanathan’s voice very carefully modulated with external hiss to appear old. A recording made that early would have a lot of nasal sounds as these frequencies were predominant in recordings of that era. The voice here is deeper - very close to Vishwanathan’s and above all the speech itself is incomplete. Well, it is all a matter of belief - the speech is Swamiji’s - unfortunately, it is not in his voice.

This is a fake! Please do no deceive people or to get more hits on your site!
May 23rd, 2007 at 8:02 am
I think it doesnt matter as long as the content belonged to Swamy Vivekananda.
And I feel, if Viswanathan had done it to cheat the people, still unknowingly he did a great job by providing the content to many people.

i’m thrilled to hear Swami’s voice. The speech is really fabulous, just drawing my attention throughout…..One of the greatest souls India produced.
July 16th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
I am an ardent admirer of Swami Vivekanada. I have read his speeches with deepest zeal.
When I listened to the first word of the audio recording, it was so obvious to me that it was not his voice at all. Any fool would have guessed that! Why? It’s so obvious. When Swamiji made a speech he was mere 31 years old. Very young. The voice in audio sounds much older than 31.
Also, I know fact Vivekanada voice was not deep like the one in audio. His voice sounded like music; so beautiful! –That’s what the people who have actually heard him say that. Plus the Chicago address was spontaneous. The audio recording doesn’t show that.
Anyway nice try. It’s better to try to focus on and mimic Swami Vivekanad’s addresses than to emulate dogs’ barkings!
Thank you
Anil
July 17th, 2007 at 2:36 am
People please. I have studied this recording in detailand IT IS NOT THE ORIGIAL VOICE OF VIVEKANADA. There are no known recordings of ANY SPEAKERS speech at the world Parliament of Religions. The phonograph was invented 6 years before the speech, however, it would be impossible to have a recording which such clarity.
Also, according to my reasearch a female mc did not introduce the swami. THIS IS A HOAX. People, please be realistic

Well, why most of are bothered of if the voice is real or not. c’mon, well did u hear the speech, well grow up and learn from the speech “Rose named anything would smell equally sweet”. even if it is not his real voice this is the greatest thing I have ever heard related to religous Philosophy.
Though if it is recited by anyother person isnt it with force. Is Theory of relativity effectless without Einstein?
and yes, Freshers in Forensic and Audio engineering go get a job.

Guys!! This is the voice of N. Vishwanathan. But don’t get disheartened - there’s a news recently which says that His voice was recorded by the Maharaja of Mysore and the record has been recently discovered from one of the storerooms in the palace. Efforts are underway to make the recording available to the public.

Outstanding effort for presenting the words of greatest person of India.I went through all of the comments section and its really nice to see this kind of adoreness of YOUNG GUNS towards vivekananda and his thoughts.I congratulate N vishwanath for his exceptional voice and the intensity which he has implemented in the Vivekananda’s thoughts.I am pretty sure this audio will help any person to rethink about the country and forces him to put it into the action rather than being fanatic and sitting quite.
I salute my Guru (Vivekananda)
sachin.

April 6th, 2008 at 7:34 am
swami vivekanada - what the peoples / young peoples think abot this person ?, what he was ?what he is ? what he will? , vivekanada was a ideal of youngs , vivekanada is ideal and he will ideal specially for indian but not only for indians. vivekanada was a world of knowledge who create a new divine world of spiritual knowledge . don’t think that he was hindu bcoz he was a great soul and soul has no religion. he was a divine spirit who gave a new direction two the youngs . according to swami vivekananda death is change of centre from one body to another body so people can’t die .
